Canada has adopted a new strategy and pathway for foreign technology workers and entrepreneurs, which prioritizes start-ups that are capitalized. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said that applicants who receive financial backing from an Angel Investor or Venture Capital Fund will receive priority processing. Qualification and criteria

Applicant qualifications are simple and straight-forward.

·Applicant and all dependents receive Canadian permanent residence.

·Small initial payment of $75,000 upon preliminary approval and upon signing the Professional Service Agreement.

·Balance of payment only required after the Letter of Support has been issued by the Designated Organization.

·Letters of Support issued in approximately 1-2 months.

·Fast federal processing is expected (approximately 18 months in most posts).

·Virtual interviews and training sessions with Inceptum and its partners.

·Flexible investor group composition for the Angel Investor and Venture Capital streams (3-4 applicants per group).

·Solo Business Incubator stream allows the applicant to form a group of one (no other group members).

·Applicant will be a minimum 10% shareholder (usually 15-20%) in a company that has strong growth potential.

·Start-up businesses are well-developed, with detailed business plans, logos, websites, and sometimes with existing products or customers.

·Inceptum and its partners prepare a detailed submission letter for all clients.

·Inceptum and its partners complete and file, with IRCC, the complete PR application (and Work Permit application, if necessary).

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

·Have moderate proficiency in English or French:CLB 5 or greater.

·Incorporate a company and intend to develop a business concept or idea in conjunction with the Designated Organization.

·Actively manage the start-up company from within Canada.

·Have minimum $500,000 in net worth (principal applicant’s and spouse’s assets combined).

·Be minimum age 20 and maximum age 50 years

(Solo Business Incubator stream),

65 years (Angel Investor stream),

or 70 years (Venture Capital stream).

·Business ownership, management or entrepreneurship experience would be an asset, but is not required.

Process

1/ Submission of Resumé

Applicant submits his/her resumé, completed Applicant Questionnaire, and supporting documents for initial client review and acceptance.

2/ Matching with Designated Organization

Acker Choquette’s team and their partners match the applicant with a Designated Organization (either Solo Business Incubator, Angel Investor Group, or Venture Capital Fund).

3/ Letter of Support

Acker Choquette and its partners receive a Letter of Support from the Designated Organization.

4/ Submission of application

Acker Choquette and its partners submit the application for Permanent Residence and Work Permit (if requested).
